KATHMANDU, MAY 17
A total of 135 climbers reached the summit of Mount Everest on Sunday, marking one of the busiest days of the ongoing spring climbing season, according to the Department of Tourism.
Favorable weather allowed the high number of ascents, with more climbers expected to summit on Monday as well, said department director Himal Gautam, Director at the Department of Tourism.
"This May 18 was designated for a 'maximum summit plan,' which led to the high number of successful ascents," said Gautam. "Despite early delays due to bad weather, the past three days have seen the season's highest summit activity."
Over 200 climbers have reached the top so far, with the highest activity recorded in the past three days.
This spring, 468 climbers-86 women and 382 men from 47 expedition teams-have received permits to climb Everest.
