KATHMANDU, MAY 18
The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in various parts of the country today, as the influence of a western disturbance, local wind system, and moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea persists.
According to the MFD, partly to generally cloudy conditions will prevail in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, along with the hilly regions of the country. The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy skies.
There is a likelihood of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at a few places in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, including hilly areas of other provinces. One or two places in the remaining regions may also witness similar weather activity. There are also chances of light rainfall or snowfall at one or two places in the high hilly and mountainous regions.
The forecast also warns of gusty winds at a few places in Madhes Province and in the Terai regions of Koshi, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Tonight, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces and in the hilly regions of the country, while the rest of the country will see mainly fair to partly cloudy skies.
Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and in the Terai areas of the remaining provinces. A few mountainous areas may receive light rainfall or snowfall. Gusty winds are expected in the same Terai regions as earlier in the day.
In Kathmandu Valley, partly to generally cloudy conditions are expected throughout the day with brief spells of rain or thundershowers likely in the afternoon and night. The MFD has placed the chance of rainfall at 40 per cent in the afternoon and 30 per cent tonight. The maximum temperature in the valley is likely to hover between 27°C and 29°C, while the minimum is expected to remain between 17°C and 19°C.
