KATHMANDU: Legendary climber Kami Rita Sherpa has scaled Mt Everest for the 31st time, breaking his own record of most successful ascents of the highest peak.
This morning at around 4:00am, Kami Rita Sherpa successfully summited the world's highest mountain Mt Everest for an incredible 31st time," Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks, told THT from the Everest base camp.
In the last two years, Kami Rita scaled Mt Everest twice each season taking his successful summits count to 30. "This season, Kami Rita scaled Everest leading a team of the Indian Army Everest Expedition," Chhang Dawa said.
Being a senior lead guide at Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expedition, Kami Rita, a native of Thame village in Solukhumbu, Nepal, has dedicated his life to mountaineering and has become synonymous with the world's highest peak.
Born on January 2, 1970, he developed a deep passion for climbing from a young age and has been scaling mountains for over two decades, according to Chhang Dawa."His mountaineering journey began in 1992 when he joined an expedition to Everest as a support staff member. Since then, Kami Rita has fearlessly embarked on numerous expeditions, summiting Everest multiple times."
According to Chhang Dawa, between 1994 to 2025 he scaled Mt Everest 31 times, K2 and Lhotse one time, Manaslu thrice, and Cho Oyu eight times.
