KATHMANDU, JUNE 4
Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has stated that Nepal is among the countries most adversely affected by climate change.
Receiving a memorandum demanding an end to coal-based energy, Deuba emphasized that Nepal has been disproportionately suffering the consequences of climate change despite contributing minimally to global carbon emissions.
The former Prime Minister underscored the need for global efforts to compensate the countries most affected by climate change.
He noted that the rising global temperatures are causing Nepal's glaciers to melt at an alarming rate and that erratic weather patterns are increasingly impacting people's lives and livelihoods.
Recalling his pledge on behalf of Nepal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045 BS at COP26 held in Glasgow, United Kingdom, Deuba stressed the importance of gradually increasing the use of electric energy in the country.
