KATHMANDU, JUNE 30
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has stated that monsoon winds are currently affecting all parts of the country, with the monsoon's low-pressure trough shifting northward from its usual position, drawing closer to western Nepal.
According to the DHM, generally cloudy skies are expected across the country. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the hilly regions, including Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudur Pashchim provinces. A few places in other regions may also witness rain. The DHM has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas of Sudur Pashchim Province and isolated locations in the rest of the country. Light to moderate snowfall is also likely in some high hilly and mountainous areas.
For tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at several places in the hilly regions and in Koshi, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudur Pashchim provinces. Isolated heavy rain is likely in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudur Pashchim provinces. Snowfall is also forecasted at a few high-altitude locations.
Risk Alert:
Due to these weather conditions, water levels in rivers may rise, posing risks of flooding, landslides, strong currents, and erosion. The DHM has urged the public to exercise caution to prevent potential harm to health, agriculture, transportation, and infrastructure.
Kathmandu Valley Outlook:
The Kathmandu Valley is expected to remain generally cloudy with chances of rain and thunderstorms throughout the day and night. There is a 60 percent probability of rainfall.
