KATHMANDU, MAY 22
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index rose by 19.40 points, or 0.71 percent, on Thursday, closing at 2,688.55 points by the end of the trading session.
The Sensitive Index, which measures the performance of class 'A' companies, climbed by 1.57 percent, while the Float Index, reflecting actively traded stocks, gained 1.05 percent.
A total of 314 companies were traded during the day, with 22,396,329 shares changing hands across 86,685 transactions. The daily turnover stood at Rs 9.82 billion.
Despite the overall rise in the benchmark index, the market remained largely negative, with only four sectors posting gains. The Banking sector led the rally with a 3.82 percent increase, followed by Finance, which gained 2.58 percent.
On the losing end, the Hotels and Tourism sector registered the sharpest decline of 2.60 percent, followed by the Hydropower sector, which dropped 1.10 percent.
Om Megashree Pharmaceuticals Limited (OMPL) was the only stock to hit the upper circuit during the session.
Out of the total traded scrips, 104 advanced, 142 declined, and one remained unchanged.
By market close, the total market capitalization reached Rs 4.473 trillion.
